Ruth Navarrette Obituary

Ruth Navarrette loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter passed away peacefully in her home on January 30, 2020 at the age of 74. Ruth was born January 19, 1946 in Taft, Texas to her parents Refugio and Francis Galindo. When Ruth was 15, her family moved to Lubbock in 1961 where she met her husband, Modesto Navarrette Sr., and was married on January 25, 1963.

Ruth was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and homemaker for most of her life. She was known as a remarkable cook who often-times brought the whole family together around her meals. She was notably known for her tamales, and she would often-times teach her daughters and granddaughters how to make them. Ruth was an avid seamstress. She especially loved making her grandchildren and great-grandchildren personalized quilts that will be cherished in each of their hearts. Perhaps Ruth’s greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and “Granny” as she was affectionately known as, will be missed and cherished in memory forevermore.

Ruth is preceded in death by her father Refugio Galindo and her mother Francis Galindo. She is survived by her husband Modesto Navarrette Sr., daughter Patricia Ortega and husband David Ortega, daughter Cindy Tarabori and husband Aaron Tarabori, and her son Modesto Navarrette Jr. and wife Dora Navarrette. Ruth is also survived by her 8 sisters, 6 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

Ruth’s celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Guajardo Chapel 407 N. University Lubbock, Texas. Interment will follow after the service at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery. A rosary will be held for Ruth Sunday February 2, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. at Guajardo Chapel.
