Maria “Luce” Zapata, 68, passed away in her home August 16, 2020. She was born March 24, 1952 in Brownfield, Texas to Jose Zapata, Sr. and Hortencia Vidaurre Zapata. She married Marcos “Roberto” Torres in March of 1965 in Abernathy, Texas.
She was employed by Covenant Hospital in the environmental department. Luce was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where she served as a greeter/usher and was a cursillista. She enjoyed spending time with her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved life and all who knew her or encountered her enjoyed her laughter, energy and joy. She will be remembered for her beautiful spirit, her love of life, and the love and joy that illuminated from her.
Luce is survived by her children Juan (Julie) Torres, JoAnn (Alex) Arellano, and JoyieLee Rocha; her sisters Josie (Julian) Valdez, Isabel Torres and Esmeralda (Frank) Losoya; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jose Zapata, Sr. and Hortencia Vidaurre Zapata; her siblings Jose Zapata, Jr. and Lupe Garcia; and her nephew Julian Valdez, Jr.
