Guadalupe Valencia Obituary

Guadalupe Anaya Valencia, 81, of Lubbock, was called home, on Monday, January 23, 2023, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Presidio TX on December 12, 1941, to Agricola Olivas and Eusebio L. Anaya. She spent many years helping to care for her 12 siblings before marrying Sabino Valencia Jr. on September 8th, 1962 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Big Spring, TX.  They shared 49 wonderful years together before his death in 2012.

Lupe was known for her kind heart and her sweet demeanor. But as a mother, she was a lioness in protecting her three children, and unwavering in her dedication and commitment to their education and well-being. She led by example in teaching them how to treat others with kindness, respect, and humility, particularly the less fortunate.

She doted endlessly on her grandchildren and lived her life as a devoted and faithful Catholic attending Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Sylvia Cantu (Jesse) of Lubbock, TX, Reynaldo Anaya Valencia of Powell, Ohio, and Laura Valencia DeLeon (John) of Lubbock, TX. Grandsons: Anthony Cantu (Stephanie Machen) of Lubbock, TX, Alex DeLeon of Cedar Hill, TX, Andy DeLeon of Lubbock TX, Elias, Leo, and Robert Valencia of Powell, Ohio. Also, three great grandchildren: Mason, Avery, and Emma.

Lupe is also survived by four brothers: Ramon Anaya (Carolina), Eusebio Anaya Jr. (Becky), Jesse Anaya (Julie), David Anaya (Maria), and one sister, Irene Flores all of Lubbock, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Silverio “Toby” Anaya, Eusebio Anaya, Pedro Anaya, Reynaldo Anaya, Hilario (Larry) Anaya, and two sisters: Araseli Valencia and Petra Valencia.

Visitation will be held from 3:00pm- 9:00pm on Friday, January 27th, 2023 with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00am on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

Internment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
