George DeLaCruz Obituary

George Alberto DeLaCruz went to be with God on October 16, 2020. He passed at home with his wife by his side. George was born on March 21, 1957 in Uvalde, Texas to the late Juan & Tomasa DeLaCruz. George attended Cooper school through the 6th grade. He loved riding horses, being outdoors and spending time with family.

In 1971, he started his business, George’s Key Shop. There was not a lock George could not fix or pick. He worked hard for many years to support his family. He loved his career until his health took a toll this past year.

He married his wife of almost 6 years, Merna DeLaCruz in 2014. They shared a love for each other and were always by each other’s side. They did everything together, eating out, bingo, even watching George’s favorite soap opera, The Young and the Restless. He loved sitting outside and playing with his love, his beloved German Shepard Sophie.

George is survived by his wife Merna DeLaCruz, his children Kristi & Able Ramirez, Sarah & Tony Fuentes, George, Jr. & Stephanie DeLaCruz all from Lubbock; his stepchildren Julian & Victoria Caballero of Carrizo Springs, Texas and Rino & Trina Montes of Seguin, Texas, and Vincent Avalos of Lubbock; 16 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his brothers Stosh DeLaCruz & Beatrice Valdez, Micheal & Leticia DeLaCruz, Lupe DeLaCruz & Deana Mojica, Manuel DeLaCruz & Estrella Ortiz

Pete DeLaCruz all of Lubbock, and Joe & Rosa DeLaCruz of San Antonio; his sisters Gloria DeLaCruz, Jaine & Charlie Sanchez, Linda & Jim Payne, of Lubbock, and Vicki & Tommy Malone of Hillister, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Juan DeLaCruz and stepdaughter Crystal Caballero. Two of his dogs, his best friends Zaza & Tigger, his passenger companions.

Honoring George as pallbearers are George Jr DeLaCruz, Tony Fuentes, Abel Ramirez, Julian Caballero, Rino Montes, and Vincent Avalos. Felix Benavides will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.
