Emilio Martinez

Emilio Martinez passed from this life on June 24, 2022 at the age of 74.  He was born April 19, 1948 to Demetrio Martinez, Sr. and Francisca Martinez.  He married Rebecca M. Martinez December 9, 1988 in Winters, TX and they shared 34 years together.  He retired after 45 years with John’s International/Lunds as a steel welder/assembler.  Emilio enjoyed playing pool, fishing, bingo, watching movies and spending time with his family and his grandchildren.  He would reminisce and share stories of early times at work and in his hometown.  He will be remembered for being a great provider, a hard worker, and his love and passion for God, life, and family.  He was a loving father, husband, and grandfather, Popo Emilio.  

Emilio is survived by his wife Rebecca, his children Martin Martinez and partner Sheila Lincoln, Sandy and husband Shannon Oswalt, Eva and husband German Montoya, Mary Ellen and husband Alfredo Yero Porro, J.R. Garcia and partner Cayla Hoober, and Rene Garcia; his grandchildren Donovan Martinez, Rashae Martinez, Devin Martinez, Dustin Oswalt, Sabrina Oswalt, Alvin Perez, Toni Pedroza, Raquel Ingram, Eric Esquivel, Rebeccca Mazariegos, Joseph Cuevas, Stephen Cuevas, Nephtali Estrada, Ursula Estrada, Raysha Russel, Kelsea Garcia, Kolton Garcia, Tailor Garcia, Jaleigh Garcia, Logan Garcia, and Tyler Garcia; his siblings Demetrio Martinez, Jr. and wife Betty, Elva Tamez, Rachel Reyes, Nora Martinez, Rosalinda Martinez, Florinda Martinez and husband Jose; 29 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. 

He is preceded in death by his former wife Juanita Tamez Martinez, his parents Demetrio, Sr. and Francisca Martinez, his brothers Raymond and Joe Martinez, his sister Amelia Tamez, his son Elton Jay (Jason) Garcia, and his grandsons Cody Dale Tubbs and Elton Jay Garcia, Jr. (Baby J).

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Winters, TX.  The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Barry Taylor officiating.  Burial will follow in the Glen Cove Cemetery.
