Armando Marquez Obituary

On Sunday, February 18th, 2024 Armando Marquez met the big Chewy (Jesus) in the sky, he was 69 years old. Armando was born on November 24th, 1954 to Aldegundo and Soledad Marquez. He was born on a farm in either Alamo, Texas or San Luis, Texas. Actually, we aren't sure. It might be Mexico to be honest, take that US Government. Armando was one of 6 children; he was the biggest jokester and had ears the size of Texas.

After residing in the Rio Grande Valley the first years of his life, his family decided to head north to Lubbock. Being the son of immigrants, Armando learned to speak English by attending grade school. This only gave him the ability to roast you in 2 different languages, a talent he was proud of and used often. Armando graduated from Lubbock High School in 1974, where he played basketball. He also attended Texas Tech for a couple of years, he was a diehard Texas Tech fan. He also loved the Dallas Cowboys, but we won't make fun of him for it...this time. During the 1980's Armando decided to join the Sheriff's department as a jailer, and from there he became a deputy. He later joined the City Marshal's Task Force, then became a Peace Officer for Lubbock Municipal Court before retiring in 2015. Armando dedicated 30 years to protecting and serving the community of Lubbock. He made friends everywhere he went, due to his witty, silly, colorful sense of humor. His amazing mustache might have something to do with it too, it was the source of all of his power. Armando enjoyed all types of music, he attended many concerts during his youth in Lubbock. He also loved watching old movies, grooving to the oldies and disco, breakfast food, cruising the streets of Lubbock, and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He was the coolest of the cool, a Lubbock historian, our own personal Meteorologist Marquez, the baddest DJ in Lubbock, and the very best Modad and Grandpa.

Armando is survived by his ex-wife Ana Marie Marquez of Kyle and their daughters, Amanda (David) Mora of Lubbock, Asa (Wade) Pennington of Amarillo, Alyssia (Brett) Marquez of Austin, Ana (Stacy) Lehnert of Kyle, as well as 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Isidro (Janie) Marquez of Harlingen, Andy (Sarah) Marquez of Lubbock, and Ramon (Julie) Moya of Wyoming. He was preceded in death by both his parents Aldegundo and Soledad Marquez, his sister Theodora Adame, and his brother Amador Marquez.

We want to thank all the doctors and nurses at Covenant Hospital for the care they provided our dad in his final days, we truly appreciate everything you have done for him and us. We also want to thank all of dad's friends and family for the outpouring of love and prayers. Even though dad couldn't express it his last few days, we know he enjoyed having everyone visit him. It meant the world to him and us.

Farewell to our beloved Cool Breeze, our memories of you will live on every time we give a snide remark, or a witty comeback. We know we learned from the best. You made life so much fun, we will never be the same without you. In the words of our beloved Modad, "Vatos locos por vida."
