Zeferino Calderon Sauceda, Jr.

Zeferino Calderon Sauceda, Jr., also known as “Chacho;Zeff,” passed away on July 2, 2026, at the age of 48. Born on June 25, 1978, in Slaton, Texas, Zeferino lived a full and vibrant life rooted in love for family, culture, and community.


In his early years, Zeferino’s athletic, social personality stood out. He was a proud graduate of Slaton High School, where he left an everlasting mark on classmates. His great leadership was evident at an early age; Zeferino served as the varsity football captain, was elected Mr. SHS 1997, earning numerous athletic awards, and also as a member of the Slaton Tiger Marching band.


Zeferino’s professional background is reflected in his dedication to service. He worked his talents to the Lubbock State School, University Medical Center, and recently as an independent general construction tradesman. His outgoing personality and great work ethic earned him the respect and friendship of his colleagues and clients.


“Chacho;Zeff” loved social gatherings, barbecues, and supporting the local Catholic Church community. Dancing was truly his passion and his laughter and positivity was always contagious for those around him. His true devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe filled his life with meaning and purpose. Served over twenty years as leader/coordinator for the Virgin de Guadalupe Matachines of Lubbock, Zeferino cherished his deep religious beliefs and had great pride in his Mexican roots.


Family was always Zeferino’s world. He is survived by his beloved mother, Maria Sauceda of lubbock; father, Zeferino Sauceda Sr. of Slaton; son, Misaias Gerardo Granados Sauceda of lubbock; sister Patricia Sauceda-Contreras and brother-in-law Rigoberto Contreras of lubbock; niece Ana-Lucia Sauceda Granados; brother Jimmy E. Sauceda and sister-in-law Claudia I. Sauceda of San Antonio; nephew Jimmy E. Sauceda Jr.; niece Mercedes V. Sauceda and niece Brooklyn L. Sauceda.


Zeferino will always be remembered for his amazing generosity, his compassion and his unwavering commitment to helping those around him. His radiant personality and legacy of kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
