With heavy hearts, we gather to honor the life and legacy of Xzavier James Martell, affectionately known as Champy, who departed this world on December 15, 2025, while serving his beloved country in San Diego, California. Born on November 4, 1993, in Lubbock, Texas, Xzavier was a cherished son, brother, grandson, uncle, and friend, whose spirit resonated with strength, laughter, and an unwavering passion for life.
A proud member of the United States Navy, Xzavier held the esteemed title of Electronics Technician Third Class Petty Officer (ET3). His journey through military service was marked by discipline and dedication. He was set to return home on January 14, 2026, after completing six years of honorable service, a commitment that exemplified his character. Xzavier’s innovative thinking and steadfast resolve made him a notable contributor to his field, and he received commendations that reflected both his technical expertise and his profound sense of duty.
Xzavier’s academic journey saw him attending college, where he excelled and graduated with honors, embodying the ethos encapsulated in the cherished father-son saying: "Be Strong, Be Proud, Be a Martell." This mantra not only mirrored his devotion to his family but also underscored his approach to life—full of determination and pride.
With a personality that was as multifaceted as it was vibrant, Xzavier was known for his keen intelligence, infectious laughter, and a delightful silliness that brought joy to those around him. He was always present for others, whether through helping a friend in need, engaging in outdoor adventures like hiking and swimming in the ocean, or indulging in activities such as reading, gaming, practicing yoga, or enjoying music. His zest for life was complemented by his love for travel, which broadened his horizons and deepened his understanding of the world.
Though Xzavier's time with us may have been cut short, the indelible impact of his service to his country and the love he held for his family will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him. His proudest accomplishments—including graduating boot camp, traversing the globe, and petting a tiger—remain testaments to his adventurous spirit and unquenchable desire to embrace life to the fullest.
He was someone who greeted you with the eyes of a child; Xzavier made sure you felt safe, heard, and not judged with anything you entrusted in him. He possessed a calming sense of metacognition that exuded in the pace and manner in which he carried himself. His intelligence was truly showcased by virtue of his comedic interplay in all the conversations he graced; He sure knew what sound, face, gesture, quirk, comment, and other idiosyncrasies to adopt in that moment. In his free time, he explored many personal interests and hobbies, and even there he sought to better understand the "why" behind and dive deeper into his liking them. They ranged from things like discovering new music, conquering video games, and hiking in the mountans to even things like his personal style choices, and an obsession with Anime and other Asiatic culture and folklore. Above all, an insatiable hunger for peace; internal and for all Earth's inhabitants.
Xzavier leaves behind his devoted father, James Martell; his loving sister, Marissa Martell; and his adoring brother, Zachary Martell. He is also survived by his cherished grandmothers, Mary Mendoza and Susie Martell; his uncles, Jesse Ruiz and Jesse Martell, Mario Martell, and Encarnacion Martell, and his aunts, Elva Marquez, Alice Magallanes, and Martha Martell, as well as his numerous cousins and his niece Nyelli Patterson. Xzavier was predeceased by his beloved mother, Elizabeth "Lisa" Martell, his grandfathers, Cale Ruiz and Encarnacion Martell Sr., his cousins, Isaac Rojo and Jazlynn Rojo. He is leaving behind a legacy that speaks to the love and warmth of family bonds.
As we gather to celebrate his life, we invite those who knew and loved Xzavier to join us for a visitation at Guajardo Funeral Chapels in Lubbock, Texas, on January 5, 2026. The funeral service will be held there the following day, where we will commemorate a remarkable life, one defined by courage, compassion, and a spirited commitment to those he cared about. Xzavier James Martell will be missed dearly, yet his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
