Virginia Moralez

Virginia Ybarra Moralez, age 72 passed away from this life on Wednesday, December 13th, 2023 at Covenant Medical Center.  She married Eusebio G. Moralez on December 23, 1978 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lubbock, TX and they shared 29 years together.

She was born on April 2, 1951 in Lubbock, TX to Jesus (Chuy) Ybarra and Ester Velasquez Ybarra.  She graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1970 and then graduated from Texas Tech University and the Methodist School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She was employed at many hospitals throughout Lubbock, beginning with West Texas Hospital, Lubbock Community Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and then Covenant Hospital.  She also spent a small stint in Austin, TX where she worked at St. David’s Medical Center.  She spent 40 plus years in the nursing industry and absolutely enjoyed taking care of patients and bringing health and joy to their lives.

She was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church; she always stated that this was “her home”.

Virginia was an avid reader.  From a young child to adulthood, she read anything she could get her hands on; she could spend hours just reading.  She took several years of Latin, and she enjoyed the challenge of words and their meanings.  Virginia also enjoyed music and dancing.

Virginia Moralez will be remembered by many for the kindness she would demonstrate to those that needed medical assistance.  Whether it was to impart her wisdom or to impart her nursing skills in caring for others, she was always willing to lend a hand.  Her siblings will remember her for mischievousness and all of the things we endured at her command.

Virginia Moralez was survived by her two sons, Michael and Adrian Moralez, both of Lubbock, Texas.  Virginia also had four sisters Margie Alarcon (Martin) of Muleshoe, Esther Ybarra of Dallas, Delia Ybarra and Mary Ann Abercrombie (Paul) of Lubbock, two brothers Andrew Ybarra (Yolanda) of Muleshoe and John Ybarra (Lora) of Lubbock, TX.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Eusebio Moralez, her parents Jesus & Ester Ybarra, and one younger brother James Ybarra.

The family will receive friends and family at Guajardo Funeral Home on Sunday, December 17th from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, December 18th, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Fr. Raymundo Manriquez  The burial will take place immediately after mass at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery in Woodrow, TX.
