Santos Zavala

Santos Zavala, a beloved member of the Lubbock community, passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on November 1, 1938, in Cameron, Texas, he lived a full and meaningful life dedicated to his family, his work, and his passions.

Santos carved out a successful career as both a farmer and a machinist. His dedication to his work not only brought him personal fulfillment but also provided for his family. He was known for his strong work ethic and the pride he took in cultivating the land and ensuring that his work was always done with care and precision.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Santos had a profound love for gardening. He found joy in tending to his trees and lawn and had a particular knack for growing beautiful roses, which brought smiles to those who admired them.

Santos is survived by his son, Chris Zavala, and daughter-in-law, Vera; his daughter, Elizabeth, and son-in-law, Rey Rodriguez; his sister, Reyes Pena; and brother-in-law, Fred Pena. He also leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren: David, accompanied by his partner Sabrina; Kimberly Cash, along with her husband Nick; and Daniel Garcia and Leandra Zavala. He cherished his role as a great-grandfather to Serenity and C.J. Zavala, whose laughter and joy filled his heart.

He is preceded in death by his  beloved wife, Bertha Zavala, as well as brothers Lupe, Ponce, Jimmy, Frank, and Mayo Zavala, who will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who remember them.

Visitation services for Santos will be held at Guajardo Funeral Chapels in Lubbock on April 27 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and again on April 28 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at Our Lady Grace Catholic Church on April 29, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton, TX, at 11:30 AM.
