Santos Herrera Sr., a beloved family patriarch, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on November 2, 1939, in Lamesa, Texas, he was the cherished son of Maurelio and Anastacia (Gaitan) Herrera.
Santos had a distinguished career as a surgical orderly at Methodist Hospital, where his dedication and work ethic were admired by colleagues and patients alike. Following his retirement, he remained a steadfast and revered figure in his community and church, being an active member of Ministerios Nueva Vida and various Christian groups. His commitment to faith profoundly shaped his life and the lives of those around him.
Revered as a "real man's man," Santos possessed an admirable strength and steadiness. He led his family with wisdom, humility, and an unwavering heart for God. His playful spirit, wise counsel, and gift for music touched the hearts of many; he had a unique ability to make everyone feel safe, seen, and deeply loved. He took great joy in the simple pleasures of life, including riding his Harley, building crafts with his skilled hands out of wood, and leather, and spending cherished moments in the mountains with family.
Santos will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dominga Herrera, who remained by his side throughout their journey together. His legacy continues through his children: Marilyn Walker and Santos Herrera Jr. and his wife Veronica. His grandchildren—Jeremy Herrera, Shaun Walker, Brianna Sanchez, Megan Shepherd, and Gabriela Herrera—along with his 11 great-grandchildren, are left to carry forward his rich traditions of love, faith, and craftsmanship.
He is preceded in death by eight siblings, his daughter Maxine Herrera, and his son-in-law Jonathan Walker.
