Santos Gonzales was born on January 27, 1949 in Posey, Texas. He was the second born of twin boys, to Nicanor and Faustina Gonzales. He spent his childhood in Slaton, before moving to Lubbock as a teenager. He met Sanjuana 'Janie' Rocha at a CYO dance at Rogers Community Center in the Arnett Benson neighborhood and from that point forward never left her side. They married on November 15, 1968 and had two children, Melinda and Robert. Santos was a hard worker and spent almost 50 years as a butcher where he started at Ben Grantham and retired from Dynamic Foods. Santos was a kind and generous man. He never met a stranger, loved to make people laugh, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who asked. In addition to his love for his family, he absolutely loved playing sports, from baseball where he was the catcher while his twin was the pitcher, to golfing with both his son and grandson.
He is survived by his two children, Melinda (Jennifer) Gonzales and Robert (Veronica) Gonzales, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Liana (Alex) Garcia, Lee (Mari) Gonzales, Lucas Gonzales, and Lorena Gonzales, and siblings Anita Garcia, Natalie Johnson, Manuel Gonzales, Arthur Gonzales and Olivia Gutierrez.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janie, both his parents and several siblings.
The family would like to especially thank, his sister, Anita, as well as Kristian Jenkins, Casey Garcia, and the wonderful staff at both Enhabit Hospice and Memory Care at Wilshire on 4th.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with interment to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 14 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
