Ramon Ortiz

May 24, 1938 — March 10, 2025

Ramon Molina Ortiz, age 86, passed away peacefully in his home on March 10, 2025.  He married his beloved wife Matilde Dominga Lopez on January 19, 1962, in Lubbock, Texas, and they shared 63 years together.  He was born on May 24, 1938, in Karnes City, Texas to Julio Vasquez Ortiz and Zeferina Molina Ortiz. He attended Rogers E. Side School in Karnes City, Texas.  He retired from Texas Tech Textile Research Center.  His heart was working alongside his father-in-law Charlie Lopez at Joe Catching Texaco service station in Lorenzo, Texas.

He was a devoted member of San Lorenzo Catholic Church, where he played in the church choir.  He was a member of Sagrado Corazon and was a cusillista (De Colores). Daily he enjoyed his seek-and-find books, playing his guitar, and chewing his favorite gum Juicy Fruit (he called it Jesse Fruit) and you could always find him playing his favorite card game Solitaire.  He especially loved to play any childhood games with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always up for the challenge every time we had a get together.  He especially loved to teach his great-grandchildren the games goldfish and poker; they all learned to cheat.  He loved it.

He will be remembered for his act of kindness, his love for his family, and always lending a helping hand whatever the circumstances may have been.  He’s from a generation where men took care of their own.  We will miss that one call away to our beloved dad in a time of need.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Matilde Dominga Ortiz; his three daughters Cindy Mayne (Howard) of Lubbock, Patty Minor (Daniel) of Lorenzo, and Terry Hall of Lorenzo; his daughter-in-law JoAnn Ortiz of Lubbock; his eight grandchildren Mindy Lopez, M’Lynn Mayne, Daniel (Dan) Minor, Gary Minor, Ramie Farmacka, Sean Hall, John (Jad) Davila, and Brooke Ortiz; his thirteen great-grandchildren Makenzie and Harlie Mayne, Daniel and Katherine Minor, Elizabeth Lopez, Ezaiah Cabello, Isaac Escobedo, Gary (GI), Logan, and Austin Minor, Mia Davila, Ian Minjarez and Jaxon and Joshua Macke.

He is preceded in death by his only son Eddie Lopez Ortiz, his parents Julio and Zeferina Ortiz, and his siblings Julio (Jr.) Ortiz, Carmen Cordaway, Minga Benitez, Irma Rodriguez, Esperanza Serenil, Ruben Ortiz, Feliz Ortiz, Jesus Ortiz, Juan Ortiz, and Candelario (Cande) Ortiz, and Concepcion (Concha) Cantu.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Daniel (Dan) Minor, Gary Minor, Sean Hall, and John (Jad) Davila.  Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Garcia, Mauricio Rodriguez, Ryan Farmacka, and Jason Lopez.
