Ophelia DeSantiago

Ophelia DeSantiago, 94, of Levelland, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at her home.

Born on March 15, 1931, in Thurber, Texas, Ophelia was the beloved daughter of Juan and Reyes Serrano DeSantiago. She lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and a deep love of the outdoors. Whether she was tending to her yard or sitting in the sun with her loved ones, Ophelia found joy in simple pleasures and the presence of those she held dear.

She is survived by her devoted daughters, Linda Castillo of Levelland and Betty Freeman and husband Norm, also of Levelland. She leaves behind her cherished grandson, Bobby Castillo and wife Tabitha of Midland, and great-grandson, Colt Castillo of Midland, both of whom brought her immense pride and happiness.

Ophelia is also survived by her sisters Refugia Guerra, Estella Banda, and Lupe Leyenbecker, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, and four brothers, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.

Ophelia’s life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and the enduring power of family and animals. She was also an avid reader, always wanting to learn and grow her knowledge. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later time as she wished to have her body donated for study and broaden the learning and knowledge of those working in the medical field. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite animal shelter, or the American Diabetes Association.
