Ofelia Hinojosa Gonzales was born August 27, 1932 in Sebastian, TX to Eva Aredando Hinojosa and Jose Hinojosa. She passed from this life from her home in Lubbock, TX on September 18, 2022 at the age of 90. Ofelia married Pete Gonzales on December 9, 1950 in Raymondville, TX and they shared 69 years together. She was a beloved wife, mother, and homemaker. An active leader at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ofelia served as a Cursillista, a Guadalupana, a lector, a Holy Eucharist minister as well as fulfilling many roles for the Altar Society. She will be remembered for her love of God, her dedication to her family, her service to her church, and her absolute certainty that she knew the best way to do all things.
Ofelia is survived by her four children Sylvia Pina (Pete), Cindy Dela Garza, Pedro Gonzales, Jr. (Roda), and Norma Dela Rosa (Felix); her eight grandchildren Landy Pina, Bob Pina, Erik Gonzales, Isaiah Gonzales, Linda Dunn, Annie Dela Rosa, Joseph Dela Garza, and Hope Dela Garza; her eleven great-grandchildren Benjamin, Kaitlynn, and Matthew Pina, Oliver and Davien Gonzales, Zevion Gonzales, Atticus and Ruby Dunn, Killian Dela Garza, Rylie Dela Garza, and Lola Pina; and her siblings Blanca Dela Rosa from Houston, TX and Julio Dela Rosa from Immokalee, FL.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Eva Hinojosa, her siblings Mary Eudy and Jose Hinojosa, her grandson Jeremiah Gonzales and her great-grandson Nicholas Pina.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 20 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. A burial mass will be held Wednesday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Martin Pina officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow, TX.
