Modesto F. Navarrette

Modesto Navarrette II, loving father and grandfather, passed away in his home, surrounded
by family, on January 22, 2022 at the age of 77. Modesto was born August 1, 1944 in Lubbock
to Modesto Sr. and Ambrosia Navarrette. He went on to marry the love of his life, the late Ruth
Navarrette, on January 25, 1963.
Modesto attended Lubbock Barber College at the age of 15, and he went on to become a
barber for over 60 years. He owned a classic Lubbock barber shop, Navarrette’s Barber Shop,
where he touched many lives and became one of Lubbock’s favorite barbers. Barbering
alongside his son, and two of his grandsons, he also created a line of barbers in the business.
He cut hair and took care of his customers up until the week of his death.
When Modesto was away from the shop, he was affectionately known as “Tha” and “Grandpa.”
Modesto was an absolute family man that made sure his family was taken care of in every
possible way. Modesto loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, and he
made sure each and everyone was spoiled and had what they needed. He often gave each one
a unique nickname when they were born. He was also a big fan of sports; he loved baseball, the
San Francisco 49ers, and the Texas Longhorns. He was also a collector of many things, and he
was especially proud of his Remington collections.
Modesto is survived by daughter Patricia Ortega and husband David Ortega, daughter Cindy
Tarabori and husband Aaron Tarabori, and his son Modesto Navarrette III and wife Dora
Navarrette. Modesto is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Modesto is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Navarrette, and his parents, Modesto I and
Ambrosia Navarrette.
Funeral Services for Modesto will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Our
Lady of Guadalupe church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from
3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. With recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00pm.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 27th, 2022 from 9:00am-1:00pm at Guajardo Funeral Chapels.

Interment will follow after the service
at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery.
