Melquiades Lujan Flores

Melquiades Lujan Flores Sr. (Cale), 85, went to be with the Lord and Savior on January 25, 2025, surrounded by his family.  He was born on October 14,1939 in Lubbock to Alberto Sr. and Amparo Flores.  He married the love of his life Maria Guerra on May 2, 1966, in Lubbock, TX and they shared 55 years together.

Melquiades worked for the City of Lubbock as a driver for 40 years and was admired by many for his work ethic and kind heart.  He was everyone’s uncle and was called the GPS man because he knew every address in Lubbock and could give you directions like no other.  Melquiades was a loving son, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed playing cards and checkers with his grandkids, watching westerns, working on crossword puzzles, word searches and watching his Dallas Cowboys.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. He was the best provider and would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it.  He always had a story to tell, a saying that would always make you think or a joke to make you laugh!  Melquiades always made it a point to say “see you later” and never “bye”, because saying “bye” was forever.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children Melquiades Flores Jr. (Latisha), Sylvia De Los Santos (Mario), Elena Duran (Arthur), Armando Flores, Cynthia Acevedo (Jody), Adam Rivera, Johnny Rivera, Alicia Janas, and sister Margarita L. Barrera. Melquiades is proceeded in death by his beloved wife Maria Flores, parents Alberto Sr. and Amparo Flores, father and mother in-law Bernabe and Paula Guerra, two sisters, five brothers, son Alfredo Garcia, grandson Jason Garcia, and several brothers and sisters in law whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held on Thursday January 30th from 3pm to 9pm with special music beginning at 5:30 pm and the Holy Rosary at 7pm that evening at Guajardo Funeral Chapels.  The mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Friday, January 31 at 10am with the burial to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
