Obituary

Martin Charles Bowman passed away on July 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service and friendship. Born on September 16, 1944 in Portland, Oregon, Martin’s life bore the marks of steadfastness, duty, and sincerity.

A proud son of Portland, Martin grew up under the guiding influence of his parents, Louvisa and Martin Bowman, both of whom preceded him in death. Loyal to his country and compelled by a sense of mission, Martin served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Rising to the rank of sergeant, he distinguished himself with dedication and courage. His service was recognized through numerous medals, including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. These honors speak to his valor and commitment during his years in uniform, a period that shaped much of his character and left a lasting imprint on all who knew him.

Martin was known for his love of simple pleasures. He enjoyed cigarettes and found deep companionship in his dogs, whose loyalty and affection mirrored his own. Those close to Martin remember these aspects of his personality; in them, he found comfort and joy throughout his life.

Among Martin’s cherished friends are Daniel DeLaCruz and his daughter Emily Mulkey, who survives him and who shared in the highs and lows of life’s journey with steadfast friendship and care.

Martin’s life will be remembered as one marked by faithful service, loyalty to friends, and appreciation for the small but meaningful joys of each day. His legacy endures in the memories of those who called him comrade and companion, and in the quiet impact of a life lived with steadfastness and heart.
