Mariah Marie Hernandez, lovingly known as "Fatty," was born on July 19, 2001, in Lubbock, Texas, and it is with heavy hearts that we announce her passing on July 1, 2025, also in Lubbock. Though her departure was unexpected, we find solace in knowing she is now reunited with her big brother, Isaiah, whom she adored and missed tremendously.
Mariah's spirit was one of love and resilience. A proud graduate of Monterey High School in 2020, she navigated life with a unique sassiness, always unafraid to speak her mind. She was a judger in the most endearing way, often leaving those around her shaking their heads in amusement at her candid remarks. Her personality radiated warmth and care, and she was the true definition of a fighter, facing life's challenges with a courageous smile that never faltered.
Her passions included coloring, scrolling through TikTok, and indulging in her favorite television show, Grey's Anatomy. Many cherished memories were made during her joyful summers at camp, where her laughter echoed in the carefree moments she experienced with friends. Mariah brought a vibrant light to her family and friends, filling their lives with love and unforgettable memories.
Mariah is survived by her devoted mother, Angela (Bryan Moreno) Prieto-Moreno; her loving sisters, Monique (Jeremiah Morales) Prieto and Mikayla (Ivan Barron) Villanueva; and her bonus siblings, Reymundo, Bryan, and Julie Moreno. She adored her nephew, Isaiah Jae Morales, and held her grandparents, Paul Prieto and Diana (Ruben Castillo) Otero and Linda Hernandez, dear to her heart. Mariah will be lovingly remembered by her aunts, Roxanne (James Devroe) Prieto, Erica (Jessie Rodriguez) Prieto, Carmen (Antoine) Norris, Raquel, and Helen Covarubio, as well as her uncles, Adam (Michelle Esquivel) Prieto, Valentino, and Rueben Robles, alongside a multitude of wonderful cousins.
Mariah's journey through life was enriched by the love of her late brother, Isaiah Hernandez, her father, Joe Hernandez, and others who have since passed, including Christopher Perez, her aunt Veronica Hernandez, and Baby Linda Guzman. Each of them holds a special place in her heart and continues to inspire those she left behind.
Pallbearers will be: Paul Prieto, Adam Prieto, Ruben Castillo, Jessie Rodriguez, Rueben Robles, David Conor.
As we gather to celebrate Mariah's extraordinary life, her memories will live on in our stories, the comfort of our connections, and the laughter she so effortlessly inspired. Her visitation will take place on July 8, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Guajardo Funeral Chapels located at 407 N University Ave, Lubbock, TX 79415. The funeral service will follow the next day, July 9, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM, concluding with a burial service at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow, Texas at 12:00 PM.
Mariah Marie Hernandez's light may have dimmed, but the legacy of love she leaves behind will forever illuminate the paths of those fortunate enough to have known her.
