Maria De Jesus Borrego Ruedas of Lubbock, Texas completed her earthly journey peacefully on November 14, 2024 after a full 88 years of life.
She was born on April 22, 1936 in Torreón, Coahuila Mexico to Sotero Ruedas and Cruz Borrego Ruedas. Maria loved reading books as a child and was clever enough to skip several grades. Before moving to the United States, Maria practiced as a nurse and took deep pride in her medical understanding and ability to serve others during this time in her life.
Prior to settling in Lubbock, Maria and her husband lived in several Texas towns serving at several congregations; but it was here in Lubbock where she settled and found her ultimate calling as a homemaker, raising five beautiful children. Additionally, Maria was employed by the Lubbock Independent School District for several years until her retirement. Where Maria flourished and found a deep and abiding joy was teaching bible classes, leading ladies' devotionals, and serving others as a member of Broadway and Sunset Churches of Christ.
Maria took care of almost all of her 11 grandchildren, some great-grandchildren, and family friends’ children selflessly throughout their childhoods. The joys of cooking, sewing, crocheting, dancing, and of course the love of Christ was one of her most profound legacies to all those she cared for.
Maria will be remembered for her amazing meals, giving nature, love of coffee, “besitos besitos” and devotion to her family. The most memorable part of Maria was her unwavering faith and love of God.
Maria is survived by her children Ricardo Perez, Debora Perez Ruiz, Noemi Ruelas Perez Martinez, Ruth Perez Harriger and John Harriger, and Emerald Perez Bilbrey and Andy Bilbrey. Her grandchildren Damon Martinez, Monica and Zack Barnard, Esmeralda Martinez, Vanessa and Ryan Babineau, Melissa Perez-Halley and John Halley, Hannah and Nathan Clark, Sarah and Shawn McCracken, Angela Harriger, Laura and Stephen Kitten, Madelyn Harriger, and Husdon Bilbrey. Her great-grandchildren Ein Rivera-Martinez and Ember Martinez, Bella, Zaya, and Robert Barnard, Beau and Blair Babineau, Harrison and Gabriela Halley, Sloan and Madison Kitten, and Evelyn and Isaac Clark.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents Sotero and Cruz Ruedas, her siblings Antonia, Juan, Ricardo, Soccoro, Jovita, her ex-husband Moises F. Perez and lastly, her loving daughter-in-law Maria Elena Bustillos Perez.
A celebration of life will take place for family and close friends on December 6th, 2024 at 11am at Sunset Church of Christ in the Flag Room.
