It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margarette Ybarra at the age of 79. Born on February 18, 1946, Margarette lived a life rich in love, joy, and unforgettable moments. She was a devoted wife to Simon Ybarra for 36 beautiful years, sharing laughter and support until his passing. Joining her beloved husband in eternal rest, she leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
A proud mother, Margarette took immeasurable joy in her family. She is survived by her sons John Moreno, Chris Ybarra, Joe Ybarra, and her stepsons, Gilbert (Sylvia) Ybarra and Simon Ybarra, her daughters, Maria (Edward) Gonzales, Eva (Adam) Reyes, Christina (Mitze) Ybarra, and stepdaughter Gracie Ybarra. Margarette was also a proud mother-in-law to Tracie Ybarra, and was blessed with 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her warm spirit. She also leaves behind her sister, Ofelia Medina.
Margarette spent many years lovingly serving the community as a dedicated employee at North Ridge Elementary cafeteria, where her warmth and kindness touched the lives of countless children. A faithful member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, she was deeply committed to her faith, drawing strength and solace from her community.
Many will remember Margarette for her infectious laughter, her unconditional love, and the warmth of her hugs. She had a passion for family gatherings and was known to delight in playing bingo and dancing, often bringing joy and life to every event. Her absence will be profoundly felt by her family and friends, yet her spirit will live on through the memories she created.
Margarette was preceded in death by her beloved husband Simon Ybarra, her parents Ferman and Eva Medina, her son Steven Ybarra, her stepson Richard Ybarra, and her siblings, Gloria Medina and Ferman Medina, Jr.
In celebrating Margarette's life, let us come together to honor her memory, reflect on the love she shared, and embrace the connections she fostered in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels with interment to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
A visitation will be held Sunday, April 6 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the Holy Rosary at 6:00.
