Manuel Gutierrez Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, was called to rest on July 27, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 88. Born on August 16, 1936, in Midland, Texas, Manuel lived a life filled with love, laughter, and hard work, leaving behind a legacy that touched all who knew him.
For 39 years, Manuel dedicated himself to the city of Lubbock, where he worked diligently in the water department. His impeccable work ethic earned him a reputation as a hardworking man and a jack of all trades. He was known for his infectious smile and the humor he brought to every situation, always finding joy in life’s simple pleasures.
Manuel cherished the time spent with his family, being the rock in their lives. His proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his loved ones—his wife, Julia Gutierrez; his daughters, Norma Gutierrez, Barbara Gonzales, Sally Garcia Luna, Cecilia Rodriguez, and Marivel Gutierrez; and his beloved sons, including George Gutierrez. He was a devoted grandfather to Buddah, Ysenia, Adrian, Lacey, Briana, Guerro, Chris, April, Miranda, Erika, and Jessica, and he was blessed with 19 great-grandkids who brought endless joy to his heart.
Manuel has survived by his loving sisters, Dolores Ortiz, Deliah Caudillo, Else Bones, Mary Gutierrez, and Diana Bustillos, as well as his brother, Ricardo Gutierrez. Together, they carried the memories of an incredible man whose warmth and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of his family.
In his spare time, Manuel found joy in working on his lawn and home, perfecting his outdoor haven. He had a passion for smoking Winston Lights 100's while watching old cowboy movies, evoking memories of simpler times. Those who gathered around him remember the moments spent peeling pecans at the kitchen table, making pecan pies, sharing stories, and sitting on the front porch, enveloped in the comfort of each other’s company.
Manuel's journey was not without sorrow; he was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Barbara Gutierrez, as well as grandsons Joshua L. Guitron and James Gonzales. He also mourned the loss of brothers Ezequiel Gutierrez, Pedro Gutierrez, and Raymundo Gutierrez, who remain in spirit as cherished memories.
His passing was peaceful, surrounded by the love of his family, exemplifying a life well-lived. The branches of his family tree will always carry the essence of his spirit, embodying the values he instilled in them. His legacy will continue to thrive in the laughter, stories, and love shared amongst those who cherished him.
The visitation to honor Manuel will take place at Guajardo Funeral Chapels in Lubbock on July 30 and 31, from 3 PM to 9 PM, and a funeral service will be held on August 1 at 10 AM, followed by burial at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park at 11:15 AM.
As we gather to celebrate his extraordinary life, we hold dear the memories of a man who gave so much to others. His warmth and humor will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will forever light our paths.
