Lydia Martinez, a beloved home health care giver at Comfort Keepers, passed away on January 31, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Dementia. Born on October 23, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, Lydia was known for her small but mighty spirit, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the fortune of knowing her.
A proud graduate of Edgewood High School in San Antonio, Lydia's life was defined by her unwavering love for her family and her deep faith in the Lord. She was an amazing hostess, always wanting to feed visitors, epitomizing her nurturing heart and remarkable ability to connect with people. Lydia cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, finding joy in every moment spent with her family. Her family was her pride and joy; she took immense joy in attending her grandchildren's activities and sports events. She shared a special bond with her great-granddaughters Kartyr and Karsyn whom she loved deeply. They affectionately gave her the name “Maca.”
Lydia’s vibrant personality shone through her infectious smile, her laughter, and her love for music and dance. Her interests extended to her passion for sports, as she was a devoted fan of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Lydia found joy in simple pleasures, such as enjoying popcorn, pickles, sunflower seeds, and a Coca-Cola, which added to her endearing nature.
Lydia is remembered by her loving husband, Joe Louis Martinez; her sons, Rolando Aguayo and Joey (Teresa) Martinez; and her daughter, Andrea Martinez-Thompson (Brad). Her legacy continues with her grandchildren: Dominic Pina, Danielle Pina, Justin Montoya, Annalicia Montoya, Julian Stone, Meya Stone, Preston Martinez, and Madi Martinez, as well as her great-grandchildren: Kartyr Pina, Karsyn Pina, Karah Davis, and Reigh Davis. She is also survived by her sisters, Rachel Gomez, Gabina Berbeja, and Julia Ovalle and her brother Gilbert Ovalle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Bessie Ovalle, and her brothers, Joe Ovalle, Pablo Ovalle Jr., and Luis Ovalle. Lydia will be remembered not only for her tenacity and love but also for the joy she brought into the lives of those she touched. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
