Our beloved Lucia Rios Torres, 96, returned to her heavenly home, peacefully, on December 19, 2021. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God could be seen in everything that she did.
She was born on July 5, 1925, in Poth, Texas to the late Rafael and Felicita Salazar Rios. During a brief period of time of her life in Colorado, she met the love of her life, the late Juventino "John" Torres. On August 26, 1944, they married and lived a wonderful life together of 65 years up until his death.
Lucia was a faithful servant of God, all the years of her life. She and her husband, Juventino, served faithfully as members of Templo Emmanuel Church for several years. Through their strong belief in God, they laid a wonderful foundation for their children and their families.
Lucia loved supporting and providing for her family and friends. She was an amazing seamstress, who made her own dresses and aprons that she often could be seen wearing. She also hand stitched cup and hand towels for those near and dear to her heart. These precious mementos are still used by her children and their children today. Her hands were rarely still. She also shared her love with food, such as fresh tortillas for her grandchildren and tamales for her family throughout the year.
Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible chapter, Psalm 23 - "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all of the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Lucia is survived by her children, Ruth Alonzo of Wolfforth, Mary Escarsega of Lubbock, Carmen and her husband Jay Portillo of Lubbock, Billa and her husband Mike Galloway of Brevard, NC, and Joel Torres and his wife Alice of Lubbock. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband and her three older siblings, Liborio Rios, Cruz Rios, and Mauricia Alegria.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27th, 2021, from 3:00pm - 9:00pm at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, December 28th, 2021, at Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
