Lonnell “Lonnie” Williams passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, July 16, 2026, surrounded by the love and presence of his family.

Lonnie was born on November 26, 1958, in Sudan, Texas, to Sunny and Ethel Williams. He was raised in Sudan, where he became a standout linebacker and a well-respected member of the Sudan Hornets football team. His athletic talent and love for the game led him to continue his football career at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas.

After moving to Amarillo, Lonnie began a career with the Coca Cola Bottling Company where he worked as a forklift operator. Following ten years in Amarillo, he transferred to Houston, Texas, and continued his employment with the company. Eventually he returned to Amarillo and joined the maintenance department at Tascosa High School with the Amarillo Independent School District where he faithfully served until retiring due to health challenges.

Lonnie was a devoted fan of the University of Texas Longhorns and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. He also enjoyed watching martial arts and classic ninja movies and could always be counted on for a lively football conversation. Above all else, Lonnie treasured time with his family. Whether he was firing up the grill for one of his famous barbecues or simply enjoying the company of those he loved, he created lasting memories through his generosity, laughter, and steadfast love. His strength, kind heart, and enduring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sunny and Ethel Williams; his only sister, Dorothy Lee Williams; and his five brothers, Lee Williams, Jimmy Earl Williams, Danny Williams, Timothy Williams, and Doug Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memory his former wife, Sheryl W. Porter of Amarillo, Texas; three children, Jordan A. Williams of Richardson, Texas, Jared A. Williams of Houston, Texas and Myeshia Danielle Thomas of Lubbock, Texas; and two brothers, James Williams of Amarillo Texas, and Kenneth Williams of Mississippi.
