A Catholic funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Kortanee Drae Chavez age 32 of Lubbock, TX. at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Lubbock, TX. with Father Jose De Dios o4iciating. The burial committal will be at the Lorenzo Cemetery in Lorenzo, TX. Funeral arrangements are under the trusted care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home of Lamesa, TX., and Guajardo Funeral Chapels of Lubbock, TX.The viewing is set for Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Guajardo Funeral Chapels from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m.Kortanee Drae entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in Tyler, TX. Kortanee was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Jesus Chavez, Catarino Peralez, Marlus Wilke, and Jose Guzman; her grandmothers, Ann Wilke, and Gregorya (Joyce) Guzman; her aunts, RoseMary Chavez, and Mary Zimmerman.God brought Kortanee into the world on November 25, 1992. Even as a little girl, Kortanee loved others well; she admired her father (Gabriel Chavez) and 3 older siblings (Kimberly, Steven, and Jessica). She graduated from Frenship High School, where she excelled in choir and show choir. She also played and sang in the Our Lady of Guadalupe church choir and volunteered in countless retreats throughout the Diocese. Music was her passion.Kortanee lived life to the fullest and inspired others to do the same. She will always be remembered for her comforting hugs that anyone could fall into, a smile that lit up every room, and a contagious laugh that turned any moment joyous. As she sang or played the guitar or piano, you couldn’t help but fall in love with the beautiful gift God had blessed her with.Kortanee made family one of her biggest priorities, and no matter the distance, she made sure you knew she loved you with all of her heart. She never had any children of her own, but loved every niece and nephew she had in the most special and endearing way. She had a truly remarkable way of making others feel important and loved. Her everlasting encouragement and bold spirit have forever marked our hearts, and we all look forward to the day we are reunited with her.Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now in the presence of our Lord, reunited with those who have gone before her.
