Julia Ramirez, a cherished matriarch and beloved member of the Lubbock community, passed away on November 1, 2025, at the age of 98. Born on April 16, 1927, in Lubbock, Texas, Julia's vast life was marked by devotion to her family, community, and faith.
Julia served with great dedication for many years at Parisian Cleaners alongside Dorothy and Moody Fewell. Her commitment to her work was only matched by her role as a loving housewife and mother. She completed her education up to the 9th grade at Carroll Thompson Jr. High and proudly obtained her cosmetology license in 1962, which exemplified her desire for personal growth and service to others.
On September 28, 1963, Julia married Alejandro N. Ramirez, the love of her life. Their union was a testament to enduring love, lasting 49 wonderful years until Alejandro’s passing. Together, they raised a beautiful family, bringing joy not only to each other but to everyone they encountered.
Julia was one of ten children, a testament to her resiliency and the strong bonds she shared with her siblings, including Seferina Castellano, Felecia Cadena, Margarita Armenta, Belen Armenta, Frances Tello, Beatrice Armenta, Guadalupe Armenta, Ignacio Armenta Sr., and Raymond Armenta, all of whom have preceded her in death. Her parents, Alejandro and Fidencia Armenta, also helped shape her into the loving person she became.
As a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lubbock, Julia completed the Sacraments there, emphasizing her devout Catholic Christian faith. She prayed for others and engaged deeply in her spiritual life, praying her Rosary daily. One of her proudest accomplishments was her participation in the Guadalupana society and her active role in the ACTS community following her retreat in November 2012.
Family was the cornerstone of Julia's life; her daughters, Rosemary Hernandez and her husband Mike, and Teresa Maisonet and her late husband David were her pride and joy. She adored her grandchildren—three granddaughters, Alejandra Maritere Hernandez, Cassandra Maritere Hernandez, and Maria Castro and her husband Stephen, and two grandsons, Jonathan Hernandez and his wife Aubrie, and Joshua Hernandez and his wife Alicia. Her grandchildren filled her heart with immeasurable joy, and she cherished every moment spent with her three great-granddaughters, Jalynn Rose Hernandez, Mia Rose Castro, and Addilynn Lilly Hernandez, and her great-grandson, Stephen Anthony Castro III.
Throughout her struggles Julia held onto her faith and survived breast cancer. She was known for her spirited personality and passions. She loved sunflowers and had a fondness for the color pink. Her enthusiasm for football was evident as she cheered for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Music was another of her joys, especially Gloria Estefan and jazz. Special treats like pizza, red velvet cake, pan dulce, her morning coffee, lemonade, and recently discovered mini corndogs from Wienerschnitzel were simple pleasures that brightened her days.
Julia Ramirez's legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know her. She will be dearly missed by many.
For the Rosary please wear your favorite Texas Tech, Dallas Cowboys, or Kansas City Chiefs attire.
