Jovita Hernandez, affectionately known as "Grandma," passed away on February 23, 2026, at the age of 81. She was born on February 16, 1945, in Post, Texas. A remarkable beautician by career, Jovita’s legacy extends far beyond her professional accomplishments. Her life was characterized by her honesty, good morals, and a generous heart that touched the lives of many.
Jovita's strong will and independence were evident throughout her life. She pursued a GED and set her sights on further education, aiming for both a nursing degree and a career in cosmetology. Her unwavering faith guided her through challenges, including her recent battle with dementia. During this time, she received support from Angels Care Hospice, for which her family is gratefully appreciative.
Family meant everything to Jovita, and she took great pride in being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved spouse, Torivio Hernandez, two sisters, and one brother. Her children include Raul and Sylvia Sanchez of Lubbock, Augustine and Ana Sanchez of Dallas, and Gerardo and Sonja Hernandez of Dallas. She also leaves behind an incredible legacy of love, reflected in her 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and the exciting anticipation of one great-great-grandson on the way. Additionally, she had a special bond with her goddaughter, Nevaeh Deleon.
Jovita cherished her hobbies, which included sewing, crafting, dancing, and listening to Tejano music. She enjoyed attending church Jamaicas and going on out-of-town trips, making memories with family and friends. Her outgoing personality and steadfast faith made her a beloved figure in her community.
Jovita was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita Martinez and Eniz Gutierrez; her son, Ernest Sanchez; her daughter, Lydia Sanchez; and her stepfather, Santos Martinez. Those who knew her will remember her as a God-fearing woman with a heart full of love and compassion.
Jovita Hernandez's memory will forever hold a cherished place in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her. Her generous spirit and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
