Josephine Pena

Josephine Pena, a beloved figure in her community and family, passed away peacefully at her home in Lubbock, Texas on April 9, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on June 5, 1941, in Kyle, Texas, Josephine was the cherished daughter of Julian and Andrea Mojica.

Josephine dedicated many years of her life to education and held significant roles at McWorter, Jackson, and Bean Elementary schools as a Teacher's Aid, Supervisor, and Librarian. Her career was marked by a profound commitment to nurturing young minds. She also contributed her talents to Levi Strauss Co., where she further enriched the lives of those around her.

In 1959, Josephine married her beloved husband, Aron Pena, on November 6. Their partnership flourished over an incredible 65 years, defined by love, mutual respect, and shared experiences. Josephine was known to be a gentle soul with a big heart, and her love for her family, husband, and friends was boundless. She cherished moments spent sewing, dancing, singing, playing her guitar, and traveling with Aron, as well as gathering with her family.

Josephine was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Guadalupanas, where she found community and companionship. Those who knew her admired her for her kindness and warmth, and she left behind a legacy of compassion and love.

Josephine is survived by her devoted husband, Aron Pena; their children, Aron Pena Jr., Frances Fuentes, Isabel Jimenez, and Caroline Romo; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Also mourning her loss are her brothers, Antonio Mojica and Emiliano Mojica, and her sister, Teresa Navarette.

She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Alice Pena; grandchildren, Daniel Jimenez Jr., Rosa Perez, and Ida Perez; great-grandchildren, Joseph Jimenez, Alexander Donnie Benevides Jr., and Josephine Celeste McGregor; as well as her sisters, Petra Ojeda, Juana Pina, and Mauricia Ponce; and brothers, Julian Mojica Jr., Leon Mojica, Catarino Mojica, and Pete Mojica.

Josephine's visitation will be held at Guajardo Funeral Chapels in Lubbock on April 14 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and again on April 15 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. A Rosary will follow on April 15 at 7:00 PM. A Mass celebrating her life will take place at Our Lady Grace Catholic Church on April 16 at 10:00 AM.

Josephine Pena will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those who were touched by her gentle spirit.
