Joseph Miecislaus Wojciechowski was born August 5, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and passed from this life on May 14, 2024 at the age of 83. He married Rita Wojciechowski in San Diego, California on September 1, 1975 and they shared 48 years together. He attended St. Albert the Great Catholic School and San Diego Mesa Community College where he achieved an associate science degree. Joseph was Chief Petty Officer Personnelman for Miramar Naval Air Squadron in the United States Navy and the owner of B.J. Driving School. As a driving instructor he taught an estimated 5,000 teenagers and almost all his grandchildren to drive. An avid bowler, Joseph was president of S.D. Bowler's Association, served on U.S. Bowling Congress Board of Directors in San Diego and in Lubbock. He bowled his first perfect "300" game in 2003. His last was a no-tap "300" in 2022. He also enjoyed painting and taking his children and grandchildren shooting. He will be remembered for being "Papa" and many called him Wojo or Pops.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife Rita, their children and spouses Bill and Toni Hudgins, Patty Wojciechowski, Doneda and Ben Nereck, Michael and Sondra Wojciechowski, Mark and Tiffany Hudgins, Timothy and Karen Baer, Nathan and Vivian Hudgins, Jimmy and Vickie Hudgins, Jeff and Michelle Wojciechowski, and Chris and Kris Kennicutt; his grandchildren Scott Hudgins, MacKenzie Nickerson, Jason Hudgins, B.J. Nereck, Lance Hudgins, Melissa Johnson, Brandon Hudgins, Jesse Hudgins, Rose Hudgins, Thomas Hudgins, Jonathan Hudgins, Mary Puccio, Brandon, Nicholas, and Alexander Baer, Chris Kennicutt, Jr., Rudy and Ty Hudgins, Zach Wojciechowski, and Skylar Maldonado; and his great-grandchildren Madilyn and Michael Nickerson, Juliana and Erik Hudgins, Caleb, Natalie and Joshua Hudgins, Katelyn Rigsby, Alexis, Leston, Jonathan and Nathaniel Hudgins, Michael Puccio, O'phelia and Ariana Wojciechowski, Hunter, Levi, and Daniel Baer, and Zara Poirier. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents Ignatius Joseph and Mary M. Wojciechowski.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 2 at 4:00 p.m. with a visitation from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
Interment will be Monday, June 3 at 1:00 p.m. at the Texas State Cemetery in Abilene, Texas.
