Jose Garza Rodriguez, 89, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 6, 1934, in Runge, Texas, to Jose and Cruz Rodriguez, who preceded him in death.

Throughout his life, Jose was known for his faith, his love for his family, and his compassion for those in need. He was a devoted Catholic and was actively involved in the Church as a Guadalupano. Jose dedicated himself to a lifetime of service for others as an entrepreneur, a civic leader, and social activist.

He was known as Jose, Joe, Chepo, husband, dad, and Popo. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, creating lasting memories through his love of travel, fishing, barbecuing, and gardening. He had a passion for life, music, sports, telling a good joke, and his beloved pets. His enthusiasm was infectious to all who knew him.

Joe will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 69 years, Juanita Gaona Rodriguez, and his children: Luis (JL) Rodriguez (and spouse Gloria Rodriguez), Mary Sandra Mendoza (and spouse Ramon Mendoza), Sonia Rodriguez (and spouse Bryan Skorrupa), Joe Nel Rodriguez (and spouse Sophie Rodriguez), and Ramiro (Ram) Rodriguez (and spouse Brooke Rodriguez). Additionally, he is survived by his brother Pete Rodriguez, and his sister Felicita Rodriguez. He is also preceded in death by his brother Guadalupe Rodriguez. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Melissa Rodriguez, Jennifer Mendoza, Jeremy Mendoza, Christopher Rodriguez, Chryssa Rodriguez, Jason Mendoza, Chantelle Rodriguez, Joe Anthony Rodriguez, Joshua Lee Rodriguez, Krystan Ramirez, and Ava Rodriguez. Joe is further survived by his 22 great-grandchildren, both present and passed: Elijah Alonzo and Kevin Hall. All who had the privilege of knowing him will carry his memory in their hearts.

Visitation will be held from  11:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024, with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels, located at 407 N University Ave in Lubbock, Texas. This will provide an opportunity for family and friends to gather, pay their respects, and share fond memories of Joe.

Following the wake, a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, situated at 3111 Erskine St, Lubbock, Texas, on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. During this service, we will celebrate his life and offer prayers for his eternal rest.

Internment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
