Jose Gaitan

June 6, 1945 — June 17, 2025

Jose Gaitan, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 17, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on June 6, 1945, in Sterling City, Jose lived a life rich with experiences that left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was 80 years old at the time of his passing, and the love he shared throughout his life will forever be cherished by family and friends.

Jose was an extraordinary individual, known for his understanding nature and the warmth he brought into every room. He was a jack of all trades; his outgoing personality made him a peoples’ person who could strike up a conversation with anyone. His love for God and family was unwavering, and those who spent time with him knew that family barbecues were sacred moments. Jose took great delight in drinking a cold one surrounded by his loved ones, and he adored every moment shared with his grandchildren.

A hardworking man, Jose achieved a great deal throughout his life. He built a successful career, proudly owning Papa Joe Hacienda and being the first owner of Burrito Tower. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own construction company, Joe's Concrete, where he demonstrated his remarkable skills by building homes from the ground up. Each accomplishment was a testament to his dedication and resolve, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and perseverance.

Jose's family includes his loving daughter, Janette Cendejas, his son, Jason Gaitan, and his siblings, Esther Holguin and Gilbert Gaitan, both residing in San Angelo, Texas. Jose’s heart swelled with pride for his grandchildren: Benjamin (Nichole) Gaitan, Irene Nunez, Ilene Cendejas, Juanita Gaitan, Kristen, Joey, Jacob, Julia, Jessica, Jeremy, Jaimye, and his 23 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought endless joy to his life.

Jose joins his dearly departed family in spirit, including his sons, Jimmy and Joey Gaitan; his mother, Juanita Lara; and his brother, Bistente Gaitan. Their memories will be honored and cherished by those who remain, as he closes his eyes with loved ones who have gone before him.
