Johnny Torres, a devoted construction worker and truck driver, passed away on September 23, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on January 25, 1946, in Waco, Texas, Johnny was known for his hard work, outspoken nature, and endearing sense of humor that always brought laughter to those around him.
Throughout his life, Johnny dedicated himself to his career, embodying the spirit of diligence and commitment. He was a steadfast provider for his family and friends, a role he cherished and fulfilled with pride. His contributions to the construction industry and his time behind the wheel as a truck driver reflect not only a strong work ethic, but also a genuine love for the tasks he undertook.
Johnny leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his sons, John Jr. and Christopher Lee Torres, who is married to Shastity; and daughters, Veronica Zavala, who is married to David, Jessica Urrutia, who is married to Saul, and Apolonia Torres, who is engaged to Robert Puente. Johnny enjoyed the blessing of 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a significant part of his life and brought him immense joy.
He is also survived by his brothers, Juan and Henry Torres, both residing in Lubbock, and his sisters, Romana Martinez of Dallas, and Yolanda Sanchez of Lubbock. Johnny shared countless memories with his family, enriched by the bonds of love and support that defined their relationships.
He joins in eternal rest with loved ones who have preceded him, including his beloved wife, Elidia Torres; daughter, Priscilla Moreno; grandsons, Noah David Zavala and Ivan Lee Torres; brothers, Abraham and Martin Torres; sisters, Beatrice Godinez and Nicholasa Valdez; as well as his parents, Apolonia and Valerino Torres.
In a testament to his impact on those he loved, he will be lovingly honored by his pallbearers—his grandsons: Johnny Torres III, Justin Torres, Greg Torres, Christopher Jr., Damion Torres, and Gabriel Valdez.
Johnny Torres will be deeply missed, but his enduring spirit and the memories created with family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Johnny's legacy will be honored during visitation on September 29, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Guajardo Funeral Chapels, located at 407 N University Ave, Lubbock, TX. A funeral service will follow on September 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Guajardo Funeral Chapels, with burial to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow, TX.
