Joe L. Huerta, Sr. (84) passed from this life peacefully to be with our Lord on January 4, 2025 at his home residence surrounded by his family. Joe was born on November 22, 1940 to Pedro Huerta, Sr. and Catarina Lemos Huerta. In January of 1961 he married his ever-darling love Celia N. Huerta and they built a beautiful life and family together for 65 years. Joe worked for the City of Lubbock as a manager in the Custodial Department of which he retired from Preston International Airport in June of 2012. Joe will be remembered as a strong-willed, God-fearing man. Joe loved to be surrounded by family and friends. He took pride in reminiscing with his children and grandchildren, telling stories of his younger days. He was a big talker and even bigger jokester. Joe enjoyed sports; football and basketball were his favorites to tune into. He was a big Dallas Cowboys and Texas Tech fan. Joe loved family get togethers and was always up for a backyard barbecue. He also enjoyed playing pool with his children. Joe will always be remembered as the respected and wise man that he was. He worked hard over the years to provide a comfortable life for his family. Joe lived a long and simple, but good life. He always had good and honest intentions. Above all else, Joe was the epitome of how great and unselfish it is to put those in your family first. Joe never took life for granted. He was a devoted husband to his wife. Joe was a strong, proud, and great father, grandfather, and friend. He was the strong foundation to his family. Joe will be missed dearly by many, and his legacy will live on.
Joe is survived by his 5 children Velma, Edmund, Edward, Cathy and Amanda Huerta. He has 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Joe is preceded in death by his loving wife Celia N. Huerta, his son Joe Huerta, Jr. and his grandson Joe Flores III, along with his brothers Juan, Pete, Pablo, Tony and Guadalupe Huerta, and his sister Manuela Daniels.
Visitation will be held from 3:00pm-9:00pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels with a Rosary beginning at 7:00pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
