Jeanessa Vela, was born on February 11, 1981, in Lubbock, Texas, and left this world on May 20, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes. She departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, resilience, and a profound love for her family.
As the oldest of her siblings, Jeanessa grew up in a bustling household where mischief was no stranger. She bore the brunt of responsibility, often taking the blame when her younger siblings found themselves in trouble. This role only deepened her bond with them, crafting stories that would later be shared and laughed over in fond remembrance.
Graduating from Southland High School at the young age of 17, Jeanessa was not just a diligent student but also a spirited cheerleader and a talented basketball player. Her dedication to athletics not only shaped her physical prowess but also instilled a fierce determination that would guide her through life. Pursuing further education at Odessa College, she set forth on a path that eventually led to a decade-long career as an Assistant Store Manager at Walmart, a role she embraced with hard work and commitment.
Jeanessa’s personality illuminated every room she entered. Known for her spontaneous spirit, blunt honesty, and respectful demeanor, she was loved by many. Often acting as a motherly figure to children, teens, and even friends of friends, Jeanessa's heart was always open. Her laughter brought brightness to those around her, making even the darkest days feel lighter.
In her leisure, Jeanessa found solace in coloring and drawing, using these artistic expressions to ease her burdens. She was a trailblazer in raising awareness about diabetes and other health issues through engaging TikTok videos, amassing over 1025 followers—a feat that filled her with pride, as it allowed her to connect and uplift others. Despite her battles with health, she was determined to enjoy life to the fullest, embodying joy even when faced with pain.
Jeanessa's proudest accomplishments included witnessing her daughter Addie attend high school prom, a moment that blossomed with the dreams and hopes of all she had worked for. Raising her children while navigating the trials of young motherhood is a testament to her strength and love.
Survived by her beloved daughters, Adrianna Benavidez, Jessica Benavidez, and Mary Benavidez; her sons, Justin Benavidez, Rene Benavidez Jr., and Michael Benavidez; as well as her brothers, Jonathan Vela and Victor Vela, and sisters, Annaliza Vela Davila and Jesica Buenrostro; she is also survived by Rene Benavidez, and Samantha Herrera. Jeanessa leaves behind a truly remarkable family who will cherish her memory forever.
Jeanessa was preceded in death by her dear mother, Glenda Gayle Sisson; her father, Richard M. Vela; and her brother, Richard Michael Vela.
A viewing will be held on June 2, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Guajardo Funeral Chapels in Lubbock, Texas, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, concluding with a burial at Resthaven Cemetery — Southland, Texas at 12:15 PM.
