Irene Perez

Irene Perez, age of 95, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2021, at Covenant Medical Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. She was the wife of Jose M. Perez. They married May 5, 1962, in Slaton, TX and shared 14 years together. She was born in Cameron, TX to Fernando and Demetria Gauna.
She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church
She enjoyed helping raise her two grandsons and granddaughter with love, patience, and kindness. Her hobbies were crocheting, embroidering, making her own clothes, and cooking for her family.
She will be remembered for her great outlook on life, always seeing the silver lining in every situation. Her captivating way of telling the times of her life, whether it was about the hard work out in the fields or chopping firewood, or just having a great time with her husband and family playing dominos, or simply just helping her grandson fix his bicycle, she would keep you intrigued.
She is survived by her son Martin Perez of Lubbock and her daughters Nelly Perez and Cecilia Ortega; her grandchildren Martin Perez, Joseph Perez both of Lubbock, Nora Perez of Colorado Springs, Co., Darlene Ortega of Lubbock, Tony Ortega of League City, TX and Pete Ortega of El Paso, TX; along with 17 great-grandchildren; one sister Jesusa Lozoya of Lubbock, two brothers Juan Gauna of Pasadena, TX, and Marselino Gauna of Lubbock.
She is preceded in death by her Husband Jose M Perez, her parents Fernando and Demetria Gauna and two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation is Monday, September 6 from 3pm-9-pm with the Rosary at 7:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 7 at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Deacon Joe Morin officiating.
Burial will follow at her final resting place in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Martin Perez, Joseph Perez (Honorary Jojo Perez), Fernando Rodriguez, Julian Martinez, Lorenzo Gauna, and Narciso Zavala.
