In Loving Memory of Gustavo “Gus” Acuña Reyna Jr. August 4, 1948 – May 20, 2026

Gustavo “Gus” Acuña Reyna Jr., lovingly known as “Junior” to many who knew him best, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born on August 4, 1948, in Edinburg, TX Gus lived a life marked by courage, resilience, humor, and unwavering love for his family. A proud Vietnam Veteran, he honorably served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division from 1968 to 1971. During his military service, he earned numerous honors and medals, including the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Expert Rifle Medal. His bravery and sacrifice reflected the strength and determination that defined his entire life.

Beyond his service to his country, Gus was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures — listening to music, dancing, grilling for family gatherings, baking, gardening, and planting flowers. He loved spending time surrounded by those he cared for most, and his adventurous spirit and sense of humor left lasting memories with everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Gus is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Reyna and Monica Reyna; six granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren, who brought him tremendous pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers, Rene Reyna and his wife, Lourdes; Ray Reyna and his wife, Sylvia; and Oscar Reyna and his wife, Karen, as well as many beloved nephews, nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustavo Salinas Reyna and Adelita Acuña Reyna, and his sister, Billie DeLeon.

A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM on June 11, 2026, at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Funeral services will take place at 9:00 AM on June 12, 2026, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, with interment to follow at West Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Gus will be remembered for his strength, his laughter, his deep love for family, and the sacrifices he made both in service to his country and throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched.

“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
