Gloria Cortinas

October 17, 1933 — October 23, 2022

Gloria Carrion Cortinas passed from this life on October 23, 2022, at the age of 89. She was born October 17, 1934, in San Antonio, TX to Margarita (Amma) Zubia and Ramon Carrion. She married Luis Alejandro Cortinas on September 9, 1953, and they shared 41 years together. Gloria attended school until the 9th grade when she went to work to help provide for her family. A lifelong learner, Gloria was always curious and was an avid reader. She retired from Methodist Hospital where she started in environmental services and worked her way to become a nurses' station coordinator. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and numerous prayer and civic groups.
When it comes to hobbies and activities, Gloria loved gardening, music, dancing, and garage sales, and we cannot forget the Little Red Barn and the Veterans' Store. The love of her life was to serve our Lord Jesus Christ, and it was best displayed through being a friend, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her love of the Lord, humility, grace, compassion, strength, and ability to see the good in everyone and everything. Her love of the Lord was woven into everything she did. Everything was done in his name, and she made sure there was no doubt about who gets the credit for all we are given. Gloria's humility came from the humble upbringing she experienced as a child and life in general. However, that is also where she got her strength.
She was our rock, our foundation, and our safety net. Because of her humility and love for our Savior, many of us went to her in times of hurt or pain only to have her listen, tell us a story, and say a prayer which even if just for a moment, gave us hope and strength to press on. Gloria's compassion was displayed in her never meeting a stranger and even when she had nothing to give herself, she gave anyway.
Grace is defined as "simple elegance and courteous goodwill" Gloria was certainly a wonderful example of grace in all our lives. Gloria's ability to see the good in all came from her love of our Savior, and she truly did see God's grace in all. In doing his will, we all experienced his grace, love, compassion, strength, and humility through her actions.
Gloria is survived by Diana "Debbie" Ruiz, Delia Martinez, Diamantina "Tina" Cunningham, David and Domingo.
She is preceded in death by her husband Luis Alejandro, her sons Daniel and Demetrio, her mother Margarita Mejia, and her brothers Armando Carrion and Luis Mejia.
