Gilbert Trevino, Sr. of Hale Center, Texas won his battle with ALS as he passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at the age of 68.
Gilbert was born on January 5, 1955 in Bremond, Texas. He attended Hale Center schools. He married Diana Gomez in 1972. He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Petra Trevino and a granddaughter, Megan Adelia Trevino. Gilbert was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Hale Center.
Gilbert is survived by his four children: Gilbert Trevino, Jr and wife Laticia of Floydada, Tx.; Stephen Trevino and wife Kari of Kerrville, Tx., Johnathan Trevino and wife Kathy of Lubbock, Tx.; and daughter Ashley Trevino of Hale Center, Tx.; his four sisters: Yolanda Bryant, Sylvia Escalon, Lidia Ponce, Delia Tienda; and his three brothers: Victor Trevino Jr., Fred Trevino, and Robert Trevino; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
Gilbert loved spending time with family and friends, listening to music, and watching his grandchildren grow. Anyone who knew Gilbert knew he loved to laugh and have fun. He also loved to cook on the grill and he would tell everyone, “I made barbeque just for you!” He was a hardworking man, having worked for 35 years and retired from the Cargill Beef Plant in Plainview, Texas when it shut its doors in 2013. His family was his greatest treasure and not a day went by that he wasn’t trying to make sure everyone was taken care of.
While he was diagnosed with ALS in April, he never complained about his illness and he lived life to the fullest these last few months by making a multitude of memories with family. We’d like to thank Interim Hospice Care, Amanda Stephens and the West Texas ALS Support Group, and LaTresa Miller for their help these last few months.
Pallbearers are Victor Trevino Jr., Eric Gomez, Gabriel Gomez, Robby Trevino, Aiden Trevino, and Jesse Salinas. Honorary Pallbearer is Raul Ruiz.
