Genaro Manuel Vega

Feb 2, 1990 — Jun 30, 2026

Lubbock, Texas

Genaro Manuel “Pinner” Vega, born on February 2, 1990, passed away on June 30, 2026, at the age of 36. Throughout his life, Genaro was a source of warmth and kindness, cherished deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Genaro’s early years were spent in Austin, where he attended Dawson Elementary, Porter Middle School, and Crockett High School. Though he did not complete high school, he displayed resilience and determination by earning his GED. During his time at Porter, Genaro signaled his love of music by joining the percussion section. This passion led him to the South Austin Music Store one day, where an unforgettable encounter occurred: Lyle Lovett, though primarily a guitarist, took time to offer Genaro a few pointers. Moments like these spoke to Genaro’s openness to new experiences and connections.

His career took him to I Energizer and Homer’s Neighborhood Bar, where he built more than a professional reputation; he built enduring friendships. Genaro was a natural at turning colleagues into confidants, and his presence became a light for those around him. Gathering with friends and colleagues was a joy for Genaro, who valued these moments of camaraderie and togetherness.

Those who knew Genaro remember him as one of the most loving, caring, and genuine people they could ever meet. He was the type of friend who would give you the shirt off his back, spend his last $5 to buy you a meal if you were hungry, or offer a ride whenever needed. More than that, Genaro was someone you could rely on for comfort and understanding, always ready to sit and listen, offering support in both good times and bad. His generosity and selflessness were unwavering, and his group of Austin friends, along with so many others, loved him deeply for it. Whether it was playing video games, hanging out to share laughter and stories, or simply being there when it mattered, Genaro’s company was treasured.

Genaro is lovingly remembered by his mother, Connie Castillo; his daughters, Selina and Talia; his sisters, Rebecca Castillo and Angela Cardenas; and his brother, Michael Pena. His extended family, including numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins, mourns his passing with heavy hearts, honoring the profound relationship he shared with each of them.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Ramon Vega, grandmother Petra Vega, and beloved uncles Melchor Esquivel and Juan Ramon Vega. Their memories, cherished by Genaro and his family, are a testament to the powerful legacy of love and connection that shaped his life.

Genaro’s warmth, sincerity, and boundless generosity have left an imprint that will not fade. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and camaraderie, living on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him.
