Francisco “Frank” Garcia, Sr. was born in Davilla, TX on June 4, ,1924 to Leonardo Garcia and Timotea Garcia, who preceded him in death. Frank went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 4, 2018 at the age of 94. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Helen Martel Gallegos who passed in Aug. 2018. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Juanita Zapata Garcia. They were married on July 18, 1945 and were blessed to stay together for more than 73 years! He is also survived by eight children; Vicenta Garcia of Lubbock, TX, Antonio Garcia (Rita) of Frisco, TX, Clara Ortega (Michael) of Calvert, TX, Frank Garcia, Jr. (Irene) of Lubbock, TX, Sara Solis (Manuel) of Washington, DC, Guadalupe Lara (Vernon) of Lubbock, TX, Leonardo Garcia (Lydia) of Hearne, TX and Joshua Garcia (Ludim) of Hearne, TX; 27 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren. Frank was the son of a revolutionary fighter with Pancho Villa’s army. In 1952 he came to live in Lubbock, TX with his wife and family where he worked as a cotton picker, professional welder and finally retired from Pharris & Wilkins Manufacturing Co. Between 1952 and 1953, his church congregation had outgrown his living room, so he rented a house. In 1959 he built his first official church called “El Buen Pastor”, which means “The Good Shephard”. His church was located at 1703 Vanda Ave., and was dedicated in 1961. By 1962, the congregation grew to over 100, and in 1966 the congregation was relocated to its current address of 2821 E. 5th St. During his leadership as Pastor, he ordained 22 ministers into his ministry. Frank was also the publisher of the Pentecostal Newsletter – El Noticiero Pentecostal, and has been distributed all over the world. He also hosted a Spanish broadcast radio show on KJAK (92.7 FM) of many of his recorded sermons, and he took live calls offering spiritual guidance to his audience. His favorite hobby was playing his Accordion for Jesus Christ. Having Spent 66 years in the ministry, teaching and spreading God’s Love to everyone, he has left quite a legacy for his loving family. Visitation will be held at Guajardo Funeral Chapels on Thursday Dec. 6 from 1pm to pm. Funeral Services will be held at El Buen Pastor Church on Friday, beginning at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
