Federico "Freddy" Chavez, born on April 10, 1960, in Lubbock, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025. He was a beloved husband, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his infectious spirit and unwavering dedication to his craft as a welder.
Freddy's personality was larger than life, characterized by a laugh that could be recognized from afar and a knack for making those around him smile. He had a special gift for giving everyone a nickname, often reflecting the unique bond he shared with each individual. His remarkable sense of humor and fondness for jokes were treasured by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In his leisure time, Freddy found joy in restoring and rebuilding cars, bowling, riding motorcycles, and, of course, welding. These hobbies not only showcased his skills but also highlighted his passion for creating and enjoying life's simple pleasures. Freddy took great pride in finishing his show car and was especially proud of finally retiring from work to embark on new adventures through travel.
Freddy is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy with whom he shared 18 years of marriage; his daughters Letty Chavez, Minerva Hernandez, Crystal Pledger, and Aeriana Chavez; his stepdaughters Dee Dee Ramirez and Denise Martinez; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his brothers Andrew, Michael, Robert, and Gabriel and his sister Bonnie, along with their respective spouses: Alice (Andrew's wife), Diana (Robert's wife), Juanita (Gabriel's wife), and Jaime (Bonnie's husband); and 28 nieces and nephews. The legacy of love and laughter he leaves behind will forever resonate within their hearts.
Freddy is preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Perez Chavez; his brother, Johnny Chavez; and his grandmothers, Dora Muniz and Virginia Martinez, as well as his grandfathers, Ralph Muniz and Isidro Perez.
A memorial service to celebrate Freddy's life will take place on August 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Guajardo Funeral Chapels in Lubbock, Texas. Friends and family will gather to honor the memories of a man whose laughter and warmth will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
