Emilio Mendez

November 28, 1953 — October 16, 2025

Emilio Mendez Jr., born on November 28, 1953, in San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, surrounded by family and love.

A graduate of Brownfield High School, Emilio went on to attend South Plains College before beginning a long and dedicated career with South Western Bell, where he eventually retired. Throughout his life, Emilio was known for his larger-than-life personality, warm heart, and unmistakable, booming laugh that could be recognized from across any room.

He brought joy wherever he went—through his quick wit, endless stories, and a deep love for his family. He found happiness in life’s simple things: long drives, watching the stars, cooking breakfast for his loved ones, and belting out Elvis Presley tunes in the kitchen. His daughter Alejandra’s most cherished memory is waking up to the sound of her father singing Elvis as he made breakfast. Another of Emilio’s greatest pleasures was taking his grandchildren to the park, where he delighted in their laughter and company.

Emilio is survived by his daughter, Alejandra McWhirter, and her husband, David McWhirter; his beloved grandchildren, Lauren Mendez-McWhirter, Fox Mendez-McWhirter, and Sawyer Mendez-McWhirter; his brothers, Francisco, Alfredo, Guadalupe, Marcos, and Carlos Mendez; and his sisters, Elena Zuniga (and husband Mario), Elidia Ramirez (and husband Beto), and Jesusa Mendez. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Mendez; his granddaughter, Ava Lucia; his parents, Emilio Mendez Sr. and Maria de Jesus Mendez; his brother, Juan Mendez; and his sisters, Eloisa Medina and Elida Mendoza.

Emilio will be remembered as a devoted father, a proud grandfather, a hard worker, and a man who never hesitated to lend a hand. His presence filled every room with joy, his laughter lifted every spirit, and his memory will continue to bring light to those who loved him.
