Elida Ortiz Garcia, a beloved member of her family and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on November 24, 1953, in Mathis, Texas, she demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience throughout her life, particularly during her extended battle with liver disease. Elida's courage defied the expectations of her doctors, reflecting the tenacity and spirit she was known for.
As a devoted homemaker, Elida found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had an inherent talent for cleaning and organizing, frequently rearranging her furniture and creating a welcoming atmosphere in her home. Her passion for music was evident as she delighted in listening to artists such as the Supremes, Selena, and various Spanish musicians. Every Saturday, she treasured moments spent dining with her family, especially indulging in her favorites—Church's Fried Chicken and menudo.
Elida was characterized by her kindness and willingness to help those around her. She held a special place in her heart for her loved ones, always ready to lend a hand, though she humorously resisted taking medicine herself. A proud grandmother, she celebrated the arrival of her granddaughter, Audrina Michelle Garza, in 2024, which marked one of her proudest accomplishments.
She leaves behind a loving family that includes her daughter, Cindy Martinez Garza, and her husband, Erik Garza; her son, Joe Galvan, and his girlfriend, Feliverta Rivas; her sisters, Janie Martinez, Maggie Martinez, and Minnie Saenz; her brothers, Willie Martinez and Vicente Martinez; and many nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
Elida is reunited in spirit with her late husband, Daniel Garcia, and her parents, Alicia Ortiz Martinez and Juan Martinez. She also holds a place in the hearts of her deceased sons, David Martinez, Ruben Martinez, and Daniel Garcia, as well as her brother, Tony Martinez.
Elida Ortiz Garcia will be deeply missed, but her spirit and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
Visitation for Elida will be held at Guajardo Funeral Chapels in Lubbock on September 25, 2025, from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The funeral service will take place there on September 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM, as family and friends come together to celebrate her life and legacy.
