He touched many lives with his caring and thoughtful nature, garnering respect and affection from those who had the privilege of knowing him.
His family remembers him fondly for his remarkable sense of humor and singing, often bringing laughter to gatherings, practices, and other life events. Edward was known for his reliability—always there to support his loved ones in every circumstance. His passion for Boston professional sports and Texas Tech University highlighted the enthusiasm he embraced in all aspects of life. He was also a keen reader and history buff, enjoying trivia and war movies in his leisure time.
Educated at O'Fallon High School in Illinois, Edward later attended Texas Tech, where he continued to foster connections that would enrich his life and the lives of those around him. He was not just a fan of sports; he was a devoted family man, proud to be a father to his sons, Christopher, Brian, and Jeremy.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia Leaney, who stood by his side through the journey of life. He leaves behind his dear siblings: sisters Patricia Croom, Sandra West, Mary Estrello, and Janet O'Donnell, and brother Richard Leaney. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Olga Leaney and Joseph Leaney.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on February 4, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM which will include a Vigil Service at 6:00 and a Rosary Service at 7:00 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels, located at 407 N. University Ave, Lubbock, TX. The Funeral Mass will be held on February 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Christ The King Cathedral, 4011 54th St, Lubbock, TX 79413, followed by burial at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park, 15602 TX-493 Loop, Woodrow, TX 79423, at 11:15 AM.
