Dora De Leon, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 87, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was surrounded by her cherished family at the time of her passing, a testament to the love and warmth that she fostered throughout her life.
Born on March 29, 1938, in Rotan, Texas, Dora dedicated many years to her career as a custodian, serving at Lubbock Independent School District (LISD) and later at Trinity Church. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her dedication to family and friends, always going above and beyond to create a comforting environment for those around her.
Dora had a vibrant personality, characterized by her love for laughter and silliness. She often brought joy to daily life, but she was also known for her protective nature, especially when it came to children. Proudly, she would stand up for the little ones she cared for, letting their parents know when their actions were unjust, earning her a special place in their hearts. In moments of humor, she would even playfully pretend to target bad drivers, showcasing her unique ability to intertwine navigation with fun.
Her hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to connect with others. Dora was known for her skills in playing dominoes and poker, often engaging in friendly competition where she sometimes employed a clever sleight of hand. She enjoyed going to bingo nights and visiting the casinos, where the slot machines would ring with the thrill of possibility. Dancing was another passion, a beautiful expression of her joy for life that she shared with friends and family.
Dora’s legacy is carried on by her loving daughter, Mary Rose Garcia, and her adoring grandchildren, Angelica Guzman and John (Amy) Saenz. She also leaves behind her sister, Rosa DeLeon Canales, along with seven great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and many honorary grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who will always hold her memory dear.
Preceding Dora in death are her beloved husband, Roman Guzman, as well as her parents, Telesforo and Elvira DeLeon, and her siblings, Adela Solis, Juanita Alvarado, Senaida DeLeon, Roberto DeLeon, Felipe Davila, Abelardo Davila, and Raul DeLeon. Their spirits are now reunited, forming a circle of love that will forever guard and guide those they left behind.
