Dominga “Sandy” Gallegos, a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026. Born on February 13, 1938, in Mendoza, Texas, Sandy lived a life marked by unwavering faith, love, and a steadfast commitment to those around her.
Driven by a passion for helping people, Sandy dedicated 28 years of her life as a certified nursing assistant (CNA). Despite not graduating from high school, she transformed her deep compassion and care into a lifelong career, touching countless lives along the way. Those who knew her remember a woman who was feisty and stubborn, yet incredibly smart, loving, and committed to her family and friends.
Sandy found joy in many hobbies and interests. She loved reading, with a special fondness for her Bible, and enjoyed sewing, riding bikes, using the elliptical, and walking. Sports like baseball and basketball were among her favorites. She was known for her skill at board games and cherished the time spent at the beauty shop. Sandy’s affection also extended to her cherished pets.
Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Matias. They created a beautiful life of family and togetherness creating treasured memories of riding motorcycles and camping adventures.
Her family held a central place in her heart. Brenda Lee Lopez, her one and only favorite daughter, fondly remembers Sandy’s love and support, recalling the many times her mother traveled near and far to attend concerts or meet up during PTA conventions in Washington, D.C., and Chicago. Brenda recalls how her mother would travel to Oklahoma in a moment’s notice if needed and how Sandy taught her to ride a bike and play catch, always available with a comforting phone call whenever needed.
Her one and only favorite great granddaughter, Kynnadee Brummett, treasures the summers spent at her grandmother’s side, baking cherry brownies and learning to make tortillas. Kynnadee will forever remember how her grandmother lovingly saved coins to give to her upon each visit, a testament to Sandy’s thoughtful and giving nature.
Sandy is survived by her one and only favorite grandson, Steven Andrew Gallegos; her brother Richard Luna and his wife Janie; sisters-in-law Diane Luna and Sally DeLara; and many wonderful nieces and nephews who cherished her presence in their lives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ascencion and Maria Luna; brothers Andres Luna, Marcy Luna, and Pete Luna; and sisters Blasa Ramirez, Guadalupe Casillas, and Maruca Luna.
Throughout her life, Sandy exemplified a strength of spirit grounded in faith and family. Her legacy of care, kindness, and determination will be lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
