Davyral “David” Hernandez, 64, of Lubbock, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, surrounded by the family who loved him dearly.
David was born on February 28, 1962, to Jose Guadalupe and Paulina Hernandez. In February of 1996, he met the love of his life, Rosalie Medrano. Together they built a life centered around family, loyalty, and love.
David was known for his strong work ethic. He worked in the oilfield for many years until health issues eventually forced him to step away. Those who knew David knew he could have a short fuse at times, but behind that temper was a heart of gold. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. He always made sure everyone was fed, and there was always a place to sleep in his home—even if it meant taking the couch.
David loved his family deeply, and they loved him just as much. He was a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Some of his favorite moments were spent having cookouts, listening to music, and simply enjoying time with the people he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Guadalupe and Paulina Hernandez; his two brothers, Carlitos and Juan Luis; and his two sisters, Mary and Irma.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Rosalie; his daughter, Paulina; his stepdaughter, Veronica; his sisters, Dora Cortez; Juanita Basquez and husband Raymond of Levelland; Patricia Barrera and husband Arturo of Levelland; and Rose Anna Barrera and husband Hector Sr. of Seagraves. He is also survived by his brothers, Isidro Hernandez and wife Charlotte of Colorado, and Ricky Hernandez and wife Norma of Lubbock, along with one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
David will be remembered for his generosity, his strong spirit, and the deep love he had for his family. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the memories he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
