Christopher Veliz, a beloved father, brother, and son, departed this world on May 25, 2025, at the age of 51, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on November 2, 1973, in San Antonio, Texas, he brought warmth and love into the lives of those around him, leaving an indelible mark that will be cherished forever.
Chris dedicated his life to education as a special education teacher at Estacado High School, where he touched the hearts of many students with his kind and easy-going demeanor. He was not just an educator but a mentor and a friend, known for his funny stories and generous spirit. His passion for teaching and nurturing young minds was fueled by his strong academic background—holding a Bachelor's in General Studies with a Major in History. Above all, he believed that every moment should be savored: "Take it easy, no need to rush. Just go with the flow and enjoy the ride," a mantra he lived by and shared with all who knew him.
Chris was not only a dedicated teacher but also a proud veteran who served as an HM3 Navy Corpsman for five years. This experience shaped him into a peacemaker, fostering an environment of respect and understanding in all his interactions. His service to his country was just one of the many accomplishments of which he was proud, exemplifying a life lived with purpose and care.
Family meant everything to Chris. He is survived by his loving mother, Ernestina Veliz, and his siblings Mark Veliz (Angel) and Victoria (Julian) Gonzales, his niece and nephew Micaela and Matthew Veliz. He treasured the time spent with his children, Caitlin (Jonathan) Martinez-Wells and grandbaby Yunuen Martinez-Wells and his son Benjamin Veliz. His joy radiated through the laughter and love shared during family gatherings—especially while cooking his extraordinary meals that he lovingly prepared for everyone. His passion extended to his hobbies; he enjoyed playing the viola and diving into adventurous online games like Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft. A true enthusiast, Chris was an avid collector, gathering figures and memorabilia from Godzilla, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Zoids.
Amongst all the cherished memories, one of his daughters' favorite recollections is the simple joy of taking the long way home, sharing playlists, and dining at their favorite restaurant together. These moments capture the essence of who Chris was—a sweet man who took pleasure in the little things, finding joy in both food and music as he brought his family together.
Chris was predeceased by his father, Matias T. Veliz Jr.
As we bid farewell to Christopher Veliz, let us carry forward his legacy of kindness, generosity, and love. May we always remember to take it easy, to enjoy the ride, just as he taught us. His memory will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light for those who were fortunate enough to know him.
