Celia N. Huerta, loving wife, mother and grandmother, gained her wings on November 23rd, 2021 at the age of 76.
Celia was born on March 30th, 1945, to Jesus and Dominga (Cuevas) Nieto in Mathis, Texas.
On January 23rd, 1961, she married her ever lasting love and husband, Joe L. Huerta. They shared 65 wonderful years together.
Celia retired from the Lubbock State School after 18 years to pursue her passion in cooking. She opened Celia's Mexican Restaurant and although it has since closed she continued to bless many bellies. Her purpose did not end there. Celia was devoted to her family. She loved to cook and always cooked with love. Best tamales you will ever taste. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family. Celia loved playing bingo. She was a strong woman who could do anything she set her mind to and nobody could tell her different.
She will always be remembered for: her wise words and conversations when she sat you down at the table, how all she cared about was her family being happy and taken care of, the way she would stare at all of her grandkids in awe, and the way her door and home was open to all.
Celia is survived by her husband, Joe; her six children, Velma Huerta, Edmund Huerta, Edward Huerta, Joe Huerta Jr., Cathy Huerta, and Amanda Huerta; 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. A village she raised. As well as her 2 sisters: Elida Gonzales and Anna Maria Nieto.
Celia is preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Lily Martinez and Micheala De La Garza; her two brothers, Macario Nieto and Jesus Nieto; and one grandson Joe Flores III.
Celia was and still is the root and Queen of her family.
She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. She touched many lives. There will never be another Celia!
